Many Ways to Hold Hands
2023. 11

Overview:Many Ways to Hold Hands explores how movement can be learned and relationships formed through touch, in collaboration with a visually impaired dancer. Through physical contact and vibrations from wearable devices, the performance investigates ways of sharing movement and intention, asking how bodies with different sensory experiences can dance together.

There are many ways to hold hands, and not all of them begin with touch.

Ut volutpat pharetra orci, ac bibendum nunc vulputate in. Praesent porttitor venenatis lacus sed mollis.

Jeehyun Joung is a professor in the K-Culture & Media program at Sejong University’s Graduate School of Business, and a researcher–artist working at the intersection of dance, embodied cognition, and emerging technologies.
Her work bridges academic inquiry and artistic creation, examining how movement, perception, and affect are transformed through AI, motion capture, wearable sensing.

Her research investigates technologically mediated corporeality—how dancers navigate multisensory feedback, algorithmic motion generation, and extended bodily forms. She develops computational frameworks that connect movement data, creative processes, and aesthetic experience, drawing on multimodal sensing, diffusion models, and real-time interactive systems.

As an artist, she creates performances and workshops that explore the body as a responsive interface—spaces where dancers co-create with machines, interpret sensor-driven feedback, and engage with new modes of presence and expressivity. Her artistic practice often merges choreography, speculative design, and interactive technology to form hybrid aesthetic environments where human and machinic agencies intertwine.

Across her academic and artistic work, she aims to expand accessibility, reimagine corporeality, and build inclusive, future-oriented practices that challenge and extend how movement can be sensed, understood, and created.
